The first\u2014tips, tricks, and resources to learn SQL. Harpreet offered a rundown of a few resources, including a course he teaches as part of his work with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.datasciencedreamjob.com\/\">Data Science Dream Job<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/sql\/azure-data-studio\/what-is-azure-data-studio?view=sql-server-ver15\">Azure Data Studio<\/a> &#8212; A great tool for helping visualize the transformations in your ETL pipeline, among other things<\/li>\n<li>Harpreet&#8217;s course as part of Data Science Dream Job<\/li>\n<li>And an upcoming session Harpreet is leading on SQL at this year&#8217;s DataScienceGO virtual conference (July 23rd-25th)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course, there are a lot more SQL resources out there, as it&#8217;s one of the more common database languages out there. <a href=\"https:\/\/hackr.io\/tutorials\/learn-sql\">This collected list on hackr.io<\/a> is a good place to start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The context in which this question was asked is also worth covering. Essentially, Harpreet was fielding a question about starting a new role and having to learn new skills on the job quickly\u2014which basically turned into a conversation about setting expectations and calibrating your approach when just starting out in a new role. This week, one of those threads centered on career advice\u2014which, if you&#8217;re looking, you can find in uncountable quantities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Specifically, the group discussed the worst pieces of career advice they&#8217;ve received or seen, and the resulting conversation brought to the fore several dynamics that the group finds particularly distasteful:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Controversy masquerading as advice, for the sake of garnering attention<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;You&#8217;re not a real data scientist unless you do XYZ&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Advice presented as fact or dogma\u2014basically hardline claims that don&#8217;t allow for nuance or context<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>As someone who feels that imposter syndrome and is susceptible to internalizing these kinds of messages, I found this exchange (in full below) to be particularly impactful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Comet ML Office Hours (7.18.21): The Worst Career Advice You&#039;ve Received\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/jBDWejySogM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Resources Mentioned<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the wonderful back-and-forths throughout the session, there were a whole lot of interesting resources mentioned, both by Harpreet and many of the attendees.
